Dear people of Reykjanesbær and guests,

The "night of the lights", celebration, was first held September 1, 2000 and was this cultural festival sign for a new beginning, on new millennium, in cultural matters of the town Reykjanesbær. At the night of the lights festival, the year 2000, the nature´s peace of art, the lighting of the cliffs Bergið, was first established and is the lighting of the cliffs an emblem for this cultural festival.

Culture is one of the most important things in our society and by connecting it to our daily lives and our families we are only doing what is essential to every living man, that is to come together and enjoy our lives each one of us in his or her own way. It is important for the Icelandic people to discover the culture in their daily lives and then give to others from those experiences like one do at this cultural celebration the night of the lights.

The night of the lights 2003 is going to be held the first Saturday in September, which happens to be the sixth day of the month. The light committee is the same as last year and is put together of talented individuals with different experiences. That´s why all the inhabitants of Reykjanesbær and most welcomed guests should be able to find things on the agenda that interests them. This year the festival starts on Thursday and ends on Sunday with it´s peak moment on Saturday, like the years before.

It is my sincere believe that with high goals of the night of the lights the celebration, that we have already experienced, has come to be. The most important thing is that the inhabitants of Reykjanesbær take part in the festival and do their best to enjoy themselves.

We should have high goals and make, the night of the lights, the cultural and family days of Reykjanesbær, the most important celebration of the country - That we will do with your assistant.

We should have fun, and be together on the night of the lights.
