Photo exhibition by Þórdís Erla Ágústsdóttir
Too young for cancer? A story about Sóley's struggle
Þórdís Erla photographer and Sóley Björg pilot and flight instructor at Atlanta, originally from Suðurnes, welcome you to the opening of a photography exhibition that has toured Iceland and will be shown for the last time on Ljósanótt! The photo exhibition was created in collaboration between the two of them and the Brakka association.
Sóley Björg Ingibergsdóttir was diagnosed with breast cancer at only 26 years old. Sóleyja thought of checking if she had a BRCA2 mutation that increases the risk of cancer when Icelandic genetic analysis opened up access to that information. She was 25 years old at the time and there was no known cancer risk in Sóleyr's family. Following the BRCA diagnosis, Sóley thought she would start regular check-ups, but was told not to worry and to come back in five years. Almost two years later, Sóley Björg herself finds a lump in her breast and is subsequently diagnosed with breast cancer. She undergoes chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and radiation therapy.
The photo exhibition is held to raise awareness for both the public and those who decide the framework and direction of the healthcare system for people with malignant transformation. This is about a young woman who, according to her intuition, began to seek an examination to see if she had a BRCA mutation in her gene and was subsequently diagnosed with cancer. The aim of the exhibition is to draw attention to the status of genetic carriers. Also to inform and educate and encourage ongoing discussion and research in the field. Last but not least, the goal is to raise awareness of hereditary cancers in Iceland and the importance of genetic testing and knowledge about changes that cause increased risk.
The subject matter of the photo exhibition is dramatic and there is no attempt to avoid it as the intention is to highlight how living with BRCA can transform people's lives. Sóley Björg is a brave young woman who is ready to tell and show her story to raise awareness of this important issue.

quantities, while today such merchandise is less frequently seen. Many display
company or product logos and were given away for free or were sold cheap. They
offer an opportunity to walk down memory lane and reflect upon how graphics and

The museum's format is built around a timeline of the history of Icelandic music, from the 19th-century classics right up to modern-day superstars like Björk, Of Monsters and Men, Sigur Rós, Kaleo, and many more.
You can dive deeper into the rich musical heritage of this land by making use of the free iPad guided tour, which will really add to your enjoyment of Iceland's cultural history, available in five languages.
A brand-new addition to the museum now offers you an incredible interactive tour of the history of your favorite Icelandic artists.

As well as that, you can try your hand at singing and playing along with some classic Icelandic hits in the popular “Sound Lab” where electric guitars, an electronic drum kit, and a special karaoke singing booth are waiting for you. You can also have a go at being an audio engineer on a full-sized mixing desk too.
This is a fantastic chance to sing and record your own pop and rock performances on video, to watch and enjoy again and again, or to share on your social media.
There is also a cinema screen that shows several fascinating films and documentaries about Icelandic music on loops all day, including concert films too.

There is a fairytale feel and the photos are mostly of Icelandic nature. It tries to capture the beauty of the land but also how scary it can be. The photos are open to your imagination. You decide what they are.
The core of the exhibition is to connect with the legaxy of my forfathers, where strong imagination encountered extraordinary nature and legend’s were born through stories. The images tell stories.
